Testing, Testing!

I have recently had a high-end microphone pickup system fitted to my Accordion - in no small part thanks to the lovely Lisa Lindley-Jones. The system houses 3 Sennheiser microphones on the Treble side and one on the Bass. Some clever micro-circuitry inside ties everything up to 2 volume knobs and an output jack - which, essentially, means that I now plug the instrument in exactly the same way one would an electric guitar. I have since purchased a Fishman Preamp to help EQ and compress the instrument, and the results are very promising! No more external microphones to be dealing with, which means a much stronger, more direct sound.

This is the first recording I have made with my 'new' instrument to test the sound quality. This is a quick bedroom recording and I am not a sound engineer, but I am very pleased with the immediate results and look forward to producing my original music in this manner. The song is "Le Banquet"... you may know it!

I have to disagree with you on that one mate

Sorry - perhaps I should have explained. The problem with the Accordian and using external microphones is in the nature of the instrument - the fact that it moves while it is being played. As the bellows are pulled outwards, away from the microphone, wherever it is placed, the sound at once becomes increasingly fainter.

Now that I have microphones internally, they travel with the instrument and produce a constant level of sound.

I agree with you, if you're using dynamic microphones. For live purposes it'll surely make a difference, I agree, but in the context I read it as in recording purposes.. so actualy if you use a condenser mic you won't have that problem and the sound will still be punchy, equal and all the rest.

if you have anything original, I wouldn't mind using it in a commercial I am working on. I am not sure of the outlet yet, but it's a spec thing and would love to use an accordian piece for the music. set for production in march, maybe february. edit the weeks after. email jhibey@gmail.com if you want the particulars of the project.

Dave, your sound really great, however you could use a little less reverb, I think if the sound is drier you can feel better the acoustic sound of this great instrument and you'll get a "cleaner" record.

Anyway great job!!
Tks a lot for sharing!!

Cool idea with the panning, but at the mo, it needs reversing (treble out of left speaker) as if you are listening rather than playing :)

Hi, I'm very impressed, as are a lot of people on youtube as you already know. I really love Yann Tiersen's intrumental music.

You've done some live performances this summer, so I wondering if there'd be more, or better still: one in Holland, where I live?
Anyway, I sure hope you still check up on your Blog.

A fan.
